Hitting Diet Pay Dirt - When dieting pays off on those weight scales in a big weigh!

A wad of sugar free gum here, a stash of rice cakes there.  A diet drink that stinks here, and an almost calorieless piece of fake cheese there.

It's very hard to believe that all the food sacrificing will add up over time, especially when we're going through the Halls of Diet Echo.  Waiting, waiting, waiting - until we think that we're going to just run and scream, then go grab all the cookies, cakes, nuts and hot cinnamon rolls off the shelves of our local market and eat every last bite in our vehicles without even waiting to get home.

And on the way home, we may even stop at our favorite pizza parlor, fried chicken fry pot, and cheeseburger haven to also stuff into our starving tummy.

But for those dieters who patiently wait, they have a big reward in store!  Weight loss.  In other words, "Weight for loss." Or more correctly, 'Wait for loss.'

Yes, it's a bit of a play on words, but keep this happy thought in mind. Soon, good things will come. Yes, it may seem more like 'forever' than 'soon' but believe me, weight loss will be your result if you are true to your weight loss plan.

And if you'd like to liven up your dead diet, we invite you to take a spin through Diet Bites.  Even if you're not dieting, there are a lot of fun articles to read here meant to keep our readers enthused about their health because being healthy is about more than just losing weight.

In the meantime, think about making these adjustments to your daily diet plan when those tricky moments hit and start to tempt you off of your currently successful weight loss plan. While dining on fast food generally spells Diet Disaster, it doesn't have to.

Weight Loss Tips for Favorite Fast Foods

Pizza

Instead of enjoying a slice of full-blown deep dish pizza at your favorite restaurant, opt for a thin slice of cheese pizza. If you want meat added, make sure it's lean. Healthy options include: lean ham and pineapple, mushrooms and black olives.

Hamburgers & Cheeseburgers:

When it comes to dining out and hamburgers, you can certainly enjoy your hamburger or even your cheeseburger. Order with all the fixings - lettuce, tomato, onions and even pickle. Here are the two spots where you need to make amendments: The Size. Order the kid's burger with all the fixings, not the giant five-stories of meat hamburger. Next - think yellow and not white. Mustard contains about 5 calories per serving while full-blown Mayo creeps up towards 100 calories and sometimes more depending upon the brand used.

Fried Chicken

If you MUST have fried chicken order the drumstick which is going to contain the least amount of calories and fat. If you must order the breast allow for a minimal of 350 calories. A healthier choice is KFC's grilled chicken. A grilled drumstick is a skinny 90 calories. A grilled KFC breast contains 220 calories, a thigh only 170 calories and a whole wing in only 90 calories. How does this compare to the Extra Crispy? One breast contains 510 calories, a wing 190 calories, a drumstick 150 calories, and a thigh 340 calories. What about original recipe? Let's see.... One breast contains 360 calories, one wing 120 calories, one thigh 250 calories and one drumstick 120 calories.

In short, if you must enjoy your chicken fried then opting for the original recipe is your best option.

What about Popeye's Chicken? Let's look at the mild chicken recipe first. One breast contains 440 calories, a thigh 280 calories, a wing 210 calories and a drumstick for 160 calories. For the Spicy Chicken Recipe at Popeye's: One breast contains 420 calories, a thigh 260 calories, a drumstick contains 170 calories and a wing 210 calories.

Other Tips for Fast Food Dining

Ordering a diet soda or water over full-blown soda can save you up to 500 calories based on the size of drink ordered. If you must order fries, then go small. If you order biscuits with your meal keep butter application minimal. Bottom line - calories add up quickly. As long as you add the totals into your daily diet and do not exceed the number of calories necessary to support your recommended weight, you should retain your recommended weight OR lose weight if you weigh more than your recommended weight.
