Overweight? Why It's Not Your Fault Why weight gain, being overweight and obesity is 'not your fault'. While many weight supplement manufacturers insist that weight gain is related to hormonal imbalances, metabolism issues and gender - only a small fraction of weight gain can be connected to such conditions. So if an individual is overweight does it mean it's their fault? Diet Bites says, "Not likely". Here's our take, and some nifty weight loss tips to help get you on the road to a thinner you. Food: Bulk vs Calorie Content The cornerstone of Diet Bites is that food equals energy, energy equals calories. When too much energy (ie calories) is consumed, the result is the storage of fat within the fat cells. One of the chief contributors to weight gain rests highly within our body's inability to discern the amount of calories going into the body. Rather than gauging calories, our bodies gauge the amount of food that we eat - the overall bulk. If we take a bunch of carrots and pit them against a bunch of cake (or avocado dip, cookies, full-blown cheese and so forth) we could equally consume the same amount of food based on bulk without our bodies instantly registering the fact that the carrots contain a tiny amount of calories while the cake contains enough calories to blow up the moon. Bottom Diet Line: It's up to us to decide what foods to put into our bodies, as well as to ensure the foods won't put us over our daily calorie needs. And when/if we don't, the overload is stored in the fat cells. Are Those Extra Pounds Due to Food Quantity or Food Quality? Is weight gain due to the amount of food consumed, or to the type of food consumed? Both! These two elements cannot be separated without breaking the chain of Weight Management. Attention must be given to the types of foods that we eat, as well as calorie content. Any food calorie - including calories from the innocent carrot will be stored in the fat cells when it exceeds our daily calorie needs. Knowledge is a Big Key in Weighty Issues One of the downfalls of the current world as we know it is the lack of education in regards to weight management. Society is taught how to crunch numbers on paper but when it comes to our tummies and body, most don't know where to begin. Educating our kids on the calorie content of common foods, as well as common fast food favorites would go a long way in battling obesity. Does This Mean I Can Run Amuck Fat chance - no pun intended. Even if the answer was 'yes' then deep down inside, the overweight person strongly desires weight loss. This doesn't mean that keeping tabs on calorie intake is a given. No, it's actually time-consuming, takes great thought and planning and can become nerve-racking at times. But the end results are amazing! Even those individuals who do not wish to count calories can keep weight gain at bay, while dropping a few pounds when they become committed to reading the calories on the labels of the foods consumed and doing a bit of quick addition in their head.
