Low Calorie Dessert Recipe for Dieters

Egg White Omelets to Egg White Cookies

Angel Clouds

Angelfood cake is fabulous choice for dieters - very low in calories because it's made with egg whites. You can mix up your own angelfood cake if you choose. Our recipe makes use of the 100-calorie dessert shells as a time-saver.

This is one of the easiest recipes we've created in the Diet Bites Kitchen - and perhaps the quickest to make. We've used Polonar fruit spread because it's packed with fruit, has a great taste of sweetness and contains a mere 40 calories per serving. Fresh berries will of course, work equally well but make sure the berries are sweet and not tart.

I came up with this recipe one afternoon when I was craving something extra-sweet, something that was more than a small tidbit without a lot of calories. We were all out of berries but there were some dessert shells in the pantry as we'd been testing out shortcake recipes. The Polonar combined with the spongecake and topping came together so sweetly and it totally satisfied my sweet tooth. As a note, if you don't have Polonar, any type of jam or preserves will work just fine. Be certain to measure because sugar-calories really add up.

Ingredients for this Low Calorie Recipe:

1 dessert shell (angelfood/spongecake)

1 Tablespoon of Polonar fruit spread

3 - 6 Tablespoons of Fat-Free Cool Whip (15 calories per serving)

Simply top dessert shell with the Polonar and Cool Whip using 3-6 Tablespoons of the topping, making it as creamy as you like. One Angel Cloud contains less than 200 calories (based on 3 Tablespoons of topping) and is a very generous serving.
