Using Your Diet Marbles to Achieve Weight Loss SuccessThe Diet Double-Take Things aren't always what they seem to be, even when dieting.... Tom and I reside out in the sticks and the other day, I had a lesson in learning that 'things are not always what they seem to be'. As I was traveling home down a winding country lane, I saw a cow who appeared to be in heavy labor as she was standing near a barbed-wire fence. She was all hunched over, and having seen many a cow in labor in my day, I immediately became aware of what I presumed was occurring. The cow was a big cow with a black body and white face. And as I slowed down to pass her, my eyes looked like two giant fried eggs as I saw the head of a grown cow sticking out of the heifer's behind. As I did a double-take, I realized that my presumption was way off. What was really standing before me was not one cow, but two - standing in opposite directions. Their legs were perfectly matched and the cow facing the other cow's behind was a bit taller - which explained that hunched-over look. Dieting is much like my bovine experience. We start out thinking that a particular diet plan is 'all that' and a few days (or hours) into the plan, we're doing a Diet Double-Take. We may think, "Why am I sacrificing myself for this idiot diet? There must be a smarter method for dropping these pesky pounds". And so many diet plans these days have gimmicks. These gimmicks serve to plug a little fun into our weight loss experience and help take our minds off the fact that we're letting go of our comfortable Diet Past in order to drop pounds. Although we can't enjoy our morning sugar-filled soda and donut, we can enjoy a 'carbless' lunch OR a 'fat-free dinner' or a 'reduced calorie no-nothing' before we go to bed tonight. Or, if we're basking in the folly of a fad diet - such as the Cabbage Soup Diet, we may not be able to enjoy our Mexican fiesta for dinner, but boy-oh-boy that bowl of cabbage soup is really going to hit the spot at dinner time. It's going to be so good that we may even enjoy two bowls. Oh, what the heck - it's so low in calories, why not enjoy the whole pot?
And what about that 'beach' diet - you know, the one located on the South side? Funny thing, but the longer one stays on the diet, the more 'beachy' one feels. They may even experience an 'out-of-body' mirage in which they envision hunky lifeguards and a sandy beach where bikini-clad beauties slap around a volleyball. But the illusion swiftly fades. While Diet Gimmicks can help take the sting out of weight loss, they tend to be very short lived. That's why it is vital to the survival of your weight loss plan that you keep the focus real. Here are a few diet tips that may help: - If your daily diet isn't patterned after the Official Food Pyramid, do a Diet Double-Take. The Food Pyramid contains the essential building blocks of total nutrition. - Totally restricting fat from your diet can create more health woes & risks than having too much fat in the diet. There are many misconceptions among the common public regarding oils such as:
All of the above assumptions are false. Healthy fat sources include: olive oil, nuts & many species of fish (such as orange roughy, salmon, tuna). Fresh fish certainly doesn't come in a bottle or can. As to oil clogging arteries and contributing to heart disease, healthy oils can actually combat heart disease. So if your diet doesn't contain oil - do a Diet Double-Take. - If your weight loss plan contains a plethora of exercise that you're finding difficult to accomplish, then it's time to do a Diet Double-Take. Pushing the body beyond it's capabilities may in turn push the body over the Edge of No Diet Return.
