The 2,400 Calorie Diet Plan

The 2,400 calorie daily diet is 400 calories over what is considered as the 2,000 calorie standard diet.

However, for active or larger-built individuals - this still may not be sufficient calories to achieve optimum good health.

This plan is double the calories of the 1,200 calorie diet and the discretionary calories are upwards to 400 calories. This allows a lot of room for the dieter to choose foods that they enjoy - to add to their day.

And 400 calories will purchase a whole lot of food. It's enough for a frozen Mexican dinner with about 50 calories to spare. It's enough to enjoy 2 super tacos at most fast food restaurants.

It's enough to enjoy a cup of whole grain pasta, a side salad with balsamic vinegar - and tomato sauce. It's also enough for 10 ounces of mixed frozen vegetables plus one bag of frozen peach slices (3 cups) plus a good chunk of crusty bread and a serving of reduced fat margarine. Or it's enough for 2 small cupcakes.

As we can see - it's all about making the wisest choices in order to get more food in our diet.

Vegetables

3 cups =

1/2 cup of dark green vegetables

1 cup of raw  green leafy vegetables**

1/2 cup of white vegetables

1/2 cup of mixed vegetables

1/2 cup broccoli

1 cup of salad greens

1/2 cup of yellow  squash

1/2 cup of carrots

1/2 cup of potato

1/2 cup of mixed vegetables

Grains

8 ounces =

1 1/2 cup of cooked wheat pasta (tan)

3 slices of whole grain bread (tan)

1/2 cup of cereal (multi-color)

1 White Flour Tortilla

1  1/2 cup of wheat pasta

3 slices of whole grain bread

1/2 cup of cereal

1 flour tortilla

Meat, Beans, Seeds, Nuts, Eggs, Peanut Butter

6.5 ounces =

1 cup of beans, peas, lentils or legumes

2 ounces of white meat

2 ounces of red meat

1 yellow /white egg (or brown egg)

1 cup of beans

2 ounces  of chicken breast

2 ounces of lean steak

1 egg

Milk, Dairy

3 cups =

3 cups of white skim milk

3 cups of milk

Oils

7 teaspoons =

These are the calories that you choose to fit into your daily diet which may or may not fall into the official food groups. Preferably, the discretionary calories should come from healthy sources.
