Cholesterol in Fruit

Written by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites

Excellent Choice Based on Fatty Acid Content

All fruits contain zero cholesterol and are exceptionally low in other fatty acids.

For example, one cup of apples contains 0.19 total fat grams.

This is just one reason why fruits make excellent choices for the dieter whether it's on the meal plate, combined in recipes or for snack time. And on that note - fruits go so well with all four of the other Food Groups housed within the American Food Pyramid.

There is just so much to love and another reason why you should latch onto a 'fruity' weight loss plan.

Health Note: Fruits Stripped From Carbohydrate Restricted Diet Plans

Perhaps this should be more of a warning rather than a note. When we see weight loss plans that support eliminating entire Food Groups - that waves a red flag.

In many carbohydrate restricted weight loss plans (yes, they are considered fad by the health experts - including this health expert)fruits are totally stripped from the meal plans because while they are lacking cholesterol (a good thing!) many are mined with carbohydrate grams.

This whole carb-restricted diet thing is actually wonky; one that limits simple carbs and opts for the complex is one thing - but that's the very basics of a healthy diet plan based on the official American Food Pyramid, now isn't it?

Any other nutritional hoo-do is apt to hurt rather than improve health. And we've yet to see anyone lose on a carb-restricted plan and maintain their recommended weight - along with their good health on a permanent basis.

If you're on a carbohydrate fad diet and you're simply pulling simple carb-based foods from your plan, opting for the complex - you're actually on the advised weight management plan based on the Food Pyramid.

Sugary Natural Food Sources for Quick Energy

The carbs contained in fruits provide a burst of quick energy to the body, among other nutritional elements. That one cup of sliced apples that we mentioned earlier contains about 15 carb grams and 57 calories.

On the other hand, one chicken liver contains 0.32 carbohydrate grams and 52 kcals. But here is the kicker; it also contains 152 mg's of cholesterol.

To the carb-restricted dieter, the liver is the better choice. For the logical healthy dieter - that carbohydrate infused apple is the healthiest choice.

The foods in the chart below contain zero cholesterol. What a healthy pick for your body!
