One cup of bread crumbs from white bread contains 119 calories.

Bread that has dried out but that hasn't reached a moldy state makes an excellent subject for making bread crumbs - or you can toast fresh bread to do such.

Simply tear the bread into tiny bits and allow to air dry. Place into a plastic bag that can be sealed. Roll a rolling pin over the bread to create the crumbs.

The crumbs of the bread contain the same nutritional elements as the whole form.

When shopping, take note to refer to the nutrition label for sodium content. Many can be quite steep in salt content which isn't good for heart health.

Bread crumbs make a good filler for meatloaf prepared with extra lean ground beef. Or, they can be sprinkled on top of casseroles and toasted until they are golden brown. Add a little seasoning to them if desired before toasting.
