Calories in Collard Greens
When I prepare a bait of Collard Greens I always stack them into the pot as high as they will go. They raise up a good three inches at times - but within the first three minutes of cooking, they quickly shrink.
And by the time they are finished cooking, there might be one-third of a pot of edible greens after shrinkage.
To prepare, be sure to thoroughly wash each leaf before adding to the pot. And speaking of that - always use a deep pot for cooking.
Fill it about one-third full of fresh water and a teaspoon of salt. You can add a strip of lean bacon for seasoning purposes if you wish.
That strip will contain about 25 to 50 calories depending upon the thickness of the slice and the brand - well worth the amount when distributed throughout the entire batch amid the cooking phase.
What goes well with a serving of Collard Greens? Golden cornbread, that's what!
