Easy Cinnamon Bread Dough Recipe

Article by Sky Taylor, Diet Bites

Diet Bites Cinnamon Bread Dough is Very Easy to Prepare

If you have about half an hour - you can prepare our delicious cinnamon bread dough.

We used 'real' Ceylon cinnamon in our recipe - not the store bought Cassia which contains liver-damaging coumarin.

Ceylon cinnamon is always referred to as 'True Cinnamon'. Regular ground cinnamon can be used, but it doesn't have that mild flavor found in True Cinnamon. It's quite 'barky' in comparison.

3 Tablespoons of baking powder, sifted

2 Tablespoons of granulated sugar
1 stick of butter, melted
2/3 cup of milk
cup of ground cinnamon
to cup of light brown sugar

Instead of using the granulated sugar, you can opt to use Splenda which measures like sugar. You'll need 2 Tablespoons.

Instead of using butter, you can opt to use reduced fat margarine. You'll need 8 Tablespoons.

Use low fat milk as a substitute for whole or 2% milk.

How to Prepare Cinnamon Bread Dough

Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar - and add 2/3 of the melted stick of butter. Set the remainder aside.

Stir in the milk and form the dough.

Remove from the mixing bowl and place onto wax paper. Form a rectangle. Roll until the dough is as thin or as thick as you prefer.  Add half of the remaining butter to the top of the rectangle of dough and smooth it out until it covers the surface. Carefully turn over the dough and coat the other side.

Add the ground cinnamon and smooth it over the surface.

To make the cinnamon rolls, carefully fold the dough into a circular fashion until you have a long circular roll. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough every inch or so.

Lay the rolls onto a baking tray. We treated ours with cooking spray.

Bake at 400 degrees for about 8 to 10 minutes.

You can make the rolls larger if you wish by making a large square out of the dough instead of a long rectangle.
