Quick Ezekiel Survival Bread Machine Method

After experimenting with several different ingredients, we settled for this rich hearty mix in our Quick Ezekiel Survival Bread.

This is a great portable bread, perfect for taking along on outdoor adventures. Take note however, that specialty grains are used in producing the Quick Ezekiel Survival Bread.

We have also created a more intense version of Ezekiel Fasting Bread for those who want the experience of grinding proteins into flour. This extended low fat recipe is located here.

HOW TO PREPARE THIS RECIPE

Although Ezekiel Bread takes a bit of effort to make, it's a memorable experience and the end result is tasty.

Take note that 'Ezekiel Fasting Bread' is commonly associated with periods of fasting, but we cannot recommend fasting for obvious reasons.

Health Note: Local honey has been found useful in combating allergies, so if you suffer from such, try using honey produced locally to assist in reducing those uncomfortable symptoms and side-effects.

Bread Suggestions for Dieters

Save calories and benefit your taste buds with these savvy bread tips for dieters.

- As a starter, be sure to use bread that contains 70 calories or less and that is made with whole grain goodness.

- Diet breads are readily available at the market and contain as little as 35 calories per slice. While it takes about 2 slices to equal a regular loaf-size slice of bread, the reduced calorie bread is an excellent choice for sandwich making and for snack times in particular. It will cost a bit more than regular bread.

- Spray bread with either butter flavored cooking spray OR no calorie Parkay and pop into the toaster for Butter Toast.

- Spray bread with either butter flavored cooking spray OR no calorie Parkay and toast on the stovetop.   Add a bit of ground cinnamon and brown sugar and pop under the broiler for cinnamon toast.

- Spray bread with either butter flavored cooking spray OR no calorie Parkay and pop into the toaster. Remove and sprinkle with garlic salt for Garlic Bread, diet style.

- For a delicious and quick bread pudding pinch one slice of white bread into a microwave-safe bowl. Add 1/2 cup of skim milk.

Next add your favorite chopped or sliced fruit: 1/2 apple OR 1/2 pear, sliced apricot, sliced peaches, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, pineapple tidbits or banana.

Almost any fresh fruit will work in this low calorie bread pudding. Exceptions are coconut and kiwi - just to name two.

Compliment the fruit with spices. For example, if you use chopped apples, then sprinkle on some ground cinnamon. Add a spoon or two of brown sugar (dark or light).

Give the mix a quick stir with a spoon and pop into the microwave until the apples are tender. My microwave is very small and it takes my bread pudding about 5 minutes to cook. Cooking time will vary depending upon speed of oven.

Speaking of which, you can also bake this bread pudding in a conventional oven or a toaster oven. You can eat it right out of the oven after it cools a bit. I enjoy adding chopped nuts to my bread pudding and occasionally a pat of light margarine.

If your bread pudding turns out too thick, add a bit more milk. If it's too thin, add another slice of bread and return to the oven for a minute or two so that it soaks up the excess liquid.

You can also add extracts to the recipe. Vanilla extract works well with most fruits. Strawberry extract is perfect when strawberries are used.

And if you don't have any fruit on hand, try using a serving of fruit-based preserves, jam or even jelly.
