10 Metabolism Facts

Metabolic issues are commonly centered around the thyroid, located just below the 'Adam's Apple' of the throat [laryngeal prominence]. The thyroid gland is one of the largest endocrine glands consisting of two connected lobes. Its shape resembles a butterfly.
Treatment of thyroid issues which impact the metabolism are treated with hormone replacement therapy which is required throughout the remainder of life. Treatment generally requires several weeks before results surface.
Side effects from drug therapy include: nausea, heart palpitations, allergic reactions - some of which can be fatal, confusion, nausea, insomnia, weight loss, increase in appetite, abdominal pain and emotional issues - such as frustration and anxiousness.
Allergic reactions generally occur within hours of taking the drug.
When the digestive system is out of whack, this situation not only impacts how we feel physically and mentally, it also impacts how our body processes the foods and drinks that we consume.

When the metabolic rate becomes sluggish and we continue to consume about the same number of daily calories, the result is generally weight gain.
In order to avoid weight gain, daily calories must be decreased OR more activity added to the daily schedule. And of course, a visit to the doctor is necessary to get the metabolism back into its healthy shape.
Women are more prone of having metabolism-related health issues than men. Keep in mind that we-females are one giant twister of 'emotional' hormones.
This medical disorder impacts the way the body stores calories. In order to be diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome, the patient generally must have at least three of the following five factors:
1. Abdominal [or central] Obesity
2. Elevated Blood Pressure
3. Elevated Fasting Plasma Glucose
4. High Serum Triglycerides
5. Low-Density Cholesterol [LDL]
Two factors which contribute to metabolic syndrome are stress and genetics. Some of your best defences include: daily exercise, healthy diet, stress management and adequate rest.
The body is more likely to experience the discomfort of digestive issues such as bloating, heartburn - which may last for several days at a time, irritability, feeling of fullness - even when the belly is empty, constipation OR diarrhea, and weight gain.
Many of these symptoms mirror IBS [Irritable Bowel Syndrome], so if you have been diagnosed with such, you may wish to explore further as your daily diet - and a body which has become too-acidic may actually be the cause of your health issues.
A sick or sluggish metabolism is often the cause of a body which is too acidic. If you're experiencing issues within your mouth - soreness, particularly with the tongue, and if you're feeling unwell, and if you are having a long bout of heartburn issues, your body may be too acidic.
You can test at home for such using inexpensive test strips which are specifically designed for testing pH levels of the body [analysis via urine].
It's time to examine your daily diet. If you are consuming a high amount of the following which is not being balanced with fresh fruits and vegetables, these may be the root-cause of your acidic issues: carbonated water [soda], sugar substitutes, dairy products, meat products and carbohydrates.
While the body needs dairy, protein and carbs for optimum health, the American diet is often filled with too many of these foods. The Eating Guidelines for many countries includes far more fresh fruits and vegetables than the American Eating Guidelines.
In addition, the carbonated water and sugar substitutes are the top two contributors to acidity issues. Try eliminating these and adding more fruits and vegetables - as close to their natural state as possible, to your daily diet.
If your symptoms persist, you should of course, see your doctor to discuss.
Personally speaking, I had a bout of acidity issues and after going on a fruit and vegetable diet for just ONE day - I saw remarkable results. My mouth started healing and my heartburn vanished.
Get up from that comfy seat and start moving. You don't have to exercise until your boots fall off - just get up and move.
Spending too much time in front of the computer or other electronic device is difficult on the body and its metabolism.

Moving about will not only speed-up your metabolism, it will assist in burning calories which combating weight gain. And activity can also assist in losing those unwanted pounds.
While exercise is key to a healthy body that feels great - the daily diet is the top factor which governs how we feel, as well as what we weigh.
The healthiest metabolism is generally faced with processing foods which are closest to their natural, raw state - like fresh fruits and vegetables.
Processing refined and highly-processed foods is much more challenging - and contributes to a sluggish metabolism.
Sleep is just as important to weight management and our overall state of heath as the daily diet and our activity level. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain.
Why?
Diet Bites feels that the longer we are up and about, the greater the opportunity of eating. Late night snacking piles on pounds at a quick rate. You may have read health studies that state that it doesn't matter what time of day that you eat - it's the number of daily calories that influence body weight. That's simply not true - or logical.
Why? Because our metabolism slows as the day progresses. It cannot possibly burn as efficiently at the end of day as it can at the beginning. Along with other internal operations within the body, it slows in preparation for sleep. And as it slows, the rate at which it burns calories also slows.
Therefore, calories - or energy consumed at the end of the day is simply not used - or burned as quickly, or as efficiently as it was earlier in the day.
Another ultra simple weight loss eating plan...
The Metabolism Diet Plan appears to be more of a starvation plan than a plan for weight loss success.
Although intended to boost metabolism, a starvation diet accomplishes just the opposite - tossing the dieter into metabolism lock-down, slowing down to a snail's pace to conserve precious calories. The metabolism has no idea that the individual is purposely restricting calorie-intake.
A slow metabolism may be due in part to inactivity, genes, age, stress level and even climate. It may even be due to an imbalance involving the thyroid which requires professional evaluation and treatment to remedy...
