Big Salad Mix Recipe for Dieters With Cucumber

Salads are a great way to pull off pounds as the lettuce base is very minimal in caloric values.

In addition, the other vegetables included in the mix are equally low in energy values - as well as in fatty acid content.

Salads Can Get Boring While Dieting

But eating salads day-in and day-out can get old quite quickly when one is striving to lose those unwanted layers of fat.

Therefore, we have to keep our mix interesting. We have to incorporate different types of vegetables as well as other ingredients so that we don't feel like we're eating the same thing over and over.

We're not saying that in order to lose weight that we have to eat salad every day - but doing such as often as possible is not only wise for reducing purposes, it's a healthy method - supplying nutritional needs from several of the basic food groups.

Balancing Our Diet & Recipes Using the Healthy Food Groups

We have the vegetables which fall into the Vegetable Group. Croutons and bread sticks go towards our grain servings. Low fat cheese - we can place that into the dairy section. Proteins - every time we add nuts, beans, seeds, eggs or meat to our mix, we're adding servings of protein. And finally we have food selections such as berries, melon and grapes which are anchored in the Fruit Group.

As to the dressing - well, it generally can't fit into any of the basic five food groups. It tends to go towards our 'minimal fat' recommendation. Therefore, it is wise to enjoy it on the side.

Why so?

Because you may leave some of it behind, thus leaving fatty values behind. When we add the dressing directly onto our salad, the leafy greens tend to collect all of it, leaving very little behind in the empty bowl.

Cucumber Salad Recipe Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to prepare this recipe; simply mix and enjoy.

4 cups of Spring greens - use this as the bed or base of your salad
6 cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup of chick peas, drained fully

1 small boiled egg, cut into thin slices
2 English walnuts, chopped into bite-sized bits
1 small cucumber sliced thin; leave the skin on is applicable to the species [if it is edible]
1/4 cup of dried fruit of your choice; might we recommend dried strawberries or cranberries?
1 serving of low fat dressing, served on the side
