Excessive Activity Contributes to Weight Loss Failure RateWeight Loss: Exercise & Your Good Health
Have you ever noticed that the first thing dieters do when they go on a diet is incorporate grueling exercise? Not just a brisk daily walk - oh no. Dieters run for the gold numbers on their weight scales. If its summer and 111 degrees outdoors, that temporary dieter will be running for the gold, their new tennis shoes pounding against asphalt so hot that it could fry an ostrich egg. And if the weather is Yeti-favorable, the new dieter is out there running amid the snowbanks, his or her tongue supporting 9-inch icicles as well as the fur-brimmed parker outlining their blue, frozen face. Of course exercise isn't necessarily a bad thing. The trouble is that grueling workouts generally last a few days or weeks, then they get tossed into the Dipsy Diet Dumpster. All that panting, sweating and sore muscle aches become a thing of the past along with plans of weight loss. About half of failed diets may be contributed to excessive exercise in an aggressive attempt to lose weight. After all, there are all those spiffy television programs where severely obese individuals are forced to the max to melt off pounds thought exercise. While it might be interesting entertainment, pushing obese individuals beyond their body's capabilities is putting their lives at risk for serious health consequences, including death. After watching one of these episodes that involved a severely obese individual biking in temperatures exceeding 105 degrees, that was enough for me. As the individual appeared to collapse, I switched the channel. Enough is enough. And sad but so, a good percentage of TV-Reduced individuals end up regaining the lost weight in a short amount of time, adding to the weight loss failure rate. Weight loss has to be something that the individual is passionate about over the long term in order for permanent weight loss to success. While excess weight is something that the dieter wants to pull off as quickly as possible, a healthy diet is the best method for achieving permanent weight loss success. Even when the dieter opts for healthy foods and beverages along with moderate exercise, the weight loss failure rate is still high because people who have OR who are overweight are dealing with an eating addition problem. As stated on Diet Bites years ago, an eating addition is one of the most difficult circles to break as we must eat to live. Other additions can be avoided. If Max has a gambling addiction - then he can stay away from the casinos, the online gambling sites and those football betting pools common in the workplace. If an individual is addicted to alcohol - they can stay avoid the spirits. But with eating - it's a continual temptation. The following Weight Loss Failure Rate chart provides an ideal of the rates of successful weight loss when embracing a healthy diet plan and moderate activity versus a healthy OR unhealthy diet plan with excessive exercise. Unfortunately, almost 100% of diets fail even when moderate exercise is added to the plan. Therefore, when the dieter drops those pounds they should work feverishly not to regain the lost weight. The only way to ensure recommended weight is permanent is to embrace a healthy life-long daily diet coupled with a healthy dose of activity.
Back to excessive exercise. If you're thinking about pairing your new healthy daily diet with an exercise plan - go for the gold and exercise your good common sense while getting there via moderate activity. Rather than rubber hitting pavement, take a relaxing walk. Even shopping will burn pounds. To get your heart rate up for optimum benefits, increase your speed while walking. Be patient and great things will come your way. You know patience comes with much tribulation, and if dieting isn't tribulation, then we don't know what is....
